Guthrie signs plea deal

Originally charged with attempted murder

MOORLAND — A Moorland woman has pleaded guilty to charges of willful injury resulting in bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with a shooting last fall, according to court records..

Cheyanne Guthrie, 30, was originally charged with attempted murder after she shot Kaleb K. Meyer in a Sept. 26, 2024, altercation at 618 Front St. in Moorland. Webster County sheriff’s deputies said Guthrie shot through the driver’s door of Meyer’s vehicle.

Meyer, who was shot in the abdomen, was transported by personal vehicle to a Mason City hospital where he was treated and released.

Guthrie was arrested on Sept. 30.

According to court documents, the plea deal requires Guthrie to serve five years in prison for willful injury resulting in bodily injury, and two years in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon. She must also pay $24,902 in pecuniary damages to Meyer.
