Greene Co. woman charged with murder
JEFFERSON — A Greene County woman is behind bars because deputies say she killed her husband Friday night.
According to the Greene County Sheriff, Christene R. Thompson, 49, has been charged with first-degree murder after her husband, Richard Thompson, was shot at their home, 2264 M. Avenue in Jefferson.
According to court documents, Christene Thompson told officers that when she returned home from work on Friday afternoon, Richard Thompson was intoxicated and she began drinking as well. The two began arguing and he went into their bedroom and shut the door. Christine Thompson stated that he began punching holes in the walls and made a statement to Christine Thompson to “shoot him.” She stated that she removed her .380 handgun from a gun safe in the residence and fired an unknown number of shots into the bedroom.
Christine Thompson later forced the bedroom door open and found Richard Thompson lying on the bed with gunshot wounds. She stated that she then called the couple’s daughter, Amber Thompson, who called 911.
Christene Thompson is currently being held in the Greene County Jail. Her preliminary appearance before a judge is scheduled for Wednesday.
