FD woman pleads guilty to felony theft charge

JEFFERSON — A Fort Dodge woman who was recently sentenced for an incident in Jefferson has violated her parole.

According to court documents, on July 1, 48-year-old Danyell Freeman pled guilty in Greene County District Court to second-degree theft and driving while barred. The charges stem from a July 15, 2024, incident in which a Jefferson business reported missing items valued at $11,129. Following the incident, officers were able to identify Freeman and her vehicle, as well as 23-year-old Shanntell Tiernan, using area security cameras. The stolen property was later found during a search warrant.

Freeman was sentenced to five years in prison for the class D felony of second-degree theft and two years for the aggravated misdemeanor of driving while barred. The sentences were suspended, and Freeman was placed on three years probation.

However, court documents show that 48 hours later, Freeman violated her parole by not contacting her parole officer. It was later reported that she is believed to have committed another alleged burglary in Webster County. On July 11, a bench warrant was issued, though Freeman’s whereabouts are unknown.

Tiernan was placed on probation for three years after pleading guilty to second-degree theft.
