DART fares to go up in Fort Dodge
Council finishes bond issue work
DART bus riders will be paying a bit more under a contract approved by the Fort Dodge City Council Monday.
The council approved a one-year agreement with MIDAS Council of Governments for operation of the Dodger Area Rapid Transit (DART) buses.
Under the terms of that agreement, the fare for an adult bus passenger will rise from $1.50 to $1.75.
Monthly passes for adults will increase from the current $35 to $37.
The fare for students and seniors will increase from $1 to $1.25.
The fare for paratransit rides which are not part of the regular fixed route bus schedule will increase from $3 to $3.50.
Also on Monday, the council approved the last of several resolutions to complete the borrowing of $10,650,000 via a general obligation bond issue. That money will pay for a long list of projects and major purchases.
The biggest single component of the borrowing is $3.8 million for additional storm sewer improvements downtown,
The debt will be paid off with a combination of property tax, storm sewer and water revenue,
In an unrelated matter, the council hired Smitty’s Lawn and Landscape to build retaining walls around two family plots in Oakland Cemetery on North 15th Street. The company will be paid $48,019.10.
Lastly, the council purchased a large saw for cutting concrete for the Public Works Department. The machine was purchased for $46,030 from Logan Contractors, of Urbandale.
Councilmembers Jen Crimmins, Dave Flattery and Megan Secor were absent.
