New charges filed in 2024 death case

Man arrested for actions after FD man was slain

A man has been arrested for his actions following an April 2024 murder in Fort Dodge.

Aidan D. Pate, 23, of Thor, has been charged with abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact, according to court documents.

According to criminal complaints filed against him, Pate’s offenses were committed April 25, 2024, at 1440 Second Ave S. and along 280th Street in rural Webster County.

April 25, 2024, is the date on which Dennis Jones, 55, was shot to death in his home at 1440 Second Ave. S. His body was dumped in a roadside ditch along 280th Street.

Police and prosecutors say Dennis Jones was shot three times by his son, Alec Jones, 26.

Alec Jones was convicted of first degree murder last year and is now serving life in prison.

His brother, Nathan Jones, 22, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, abuse of a corpse and accessory after the fact. He is now serving 22 years in prison.

During the trial of Alec Jones, Pate was identified as a friend of the two brothers. He was also identified as the driver of a vehicle that was spotted at the Jones house the night of the murder.

Pate was arrested by Webster County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday at Vincent Avenue and 140th Street. He made his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Wednesday morning.

During his court appearance, Pate waived his right to a preliminary hearing. That means the case against him will proceed to arraignment and trial.

He was released from jail and placed under the supervision of the Department of Correctional Services.
