Dayton home damaged in Thursday fire

DAYTON — Iowa Highway 175 in Dayton was shut down for more than two hours Thursday evening as firefighters from three area departments battled a house fire.

According to Dayton Fire Chief Luke Hainzinger, the fire at 302 Third St. N.W., which is along the highway, started in an upstairs bedroom. Hainzinger said smoke was visible from the roof and eaves when firefighters arrived on scene.

The home, which did not have power at the time of the fire, has extensive smoke and water damage.

The fire is under investigation.

At the scene were the Dayton, Lehigh and Stratford fire departments, Dayton Rescue Squad, Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State Patrol, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and Black Hills Energy.
