LAKE CITY — When the last day of school arrived on Friday for South Central Calhoun’s (SCC) senior class, the soon-to-be graduates made plenty of memories.
The day started just after 7 a.m. with a hearty, hot breakfast served at Central School Preservation, a museum that’s housed in a historic 1884 school building in Lake City. Then the Class of 2025 headed over to the SCC Elementary School and Middle School in Rockwell City. As part of a new tradition, the seniors donned their mortarboards and visited with the younger students.
Then the seniors headed to Sac City to enjoy a meal at the Cattlemen’s Steakhouse.
“The class of 2025 has been a really fun, nice group of students,” said Donna Von Glan, a long-time math teacher at SCC.
The SCC graduation ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the high school gymnasium in Lake City.

“This is one of the best classes I’ve worked with during my 40-year teaching career,” said Mark Schaefer, an SCC biology/anatomy teacher and athletic director who is retiring after spending the last 35 years of his career at the high school in Lake City.
