Rutland woman charged with dependent adult abuse
Two neglected individuals found in home
RUTLAND — A Rutland woman has been arrested and charged with two counts of dependent adult abuse.
Libby Palmer, 52, was charged Sunday with intentional dependent adult abuse and dependent adult abuse.
According to court documents, the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital ambulance crew responded to 1897 Iowa Ave. in Rutland in reference to a male subject having a severely infected wound on his buttocks that required medical attention. The ambulance director reported the condition of the wound as well as living conditions of the residence to law enforcement. Humboldt County deputies arrived on scene and determined that the man, a dependent adult, was being neglected.
Following a joint investigation, a second dependent adult in the residence was also identified and deemed to be neglected.
Palmer turned herself in to the Humboldt County Jail on Monday. She later posted $11,000 cash bond and was released. She is scheduled to appear before a magistrate judge at 9 a.m. Thursday in Dakota City for her initial appearance.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service, the lowa Department of Health and Human Services, and the Humboldt County Attorney.
