The main road through the city of Callender, Thomas Street, is closed potentially through the end of August as the city works to bring the road up to the correct grade and to update the sidewalks.

CALLENDER — Drivers hoping to travel through downtown Callender will have to find a new route for the next four months.

Webster County Road D43 is closed from west of Charles Avenue to Margaret Avenue until roadwork is completed.

According to Callender City Clerk Kate Peterson, the sidewalks are being updated and the road is being brought up to the correct grade.

Road closure signs went up on Monday. According to Peterson, the project engineer along with the county are working on a designated detour route for drivers.

Wicks Construction, of Decorah, was awarded the construction project for $491,945 and is expected to complete the sidewalks and road grade project by Aug. 31.
