DAYTON — One donated pop can at a time funded a life-saving improvement for the Dayton Rescue Squad.
The Dayton Community Club cashed in more than 320,000 empty pop cans and bottles last week to fund a new power lift cot for the Dayton ambulance. The cost of the Stryker power lift hydraulic cot was $16,034.
“Without the Dayton community, we would have never been able to upgrade our equipment,” said Danny Hansen, Rescue Squad director. “This support means so much, not only to us, but also to the patients in our communities.”
According to Hansen, the power lift cot is a vital tool to volunteers on the Rescue Squad as it reduces the physical burden of lifting and moving patients. The previous cot was difficult for volunteers to utilize, whereas the new hydraulic cot will reduce the risk of injuries among emergency personnel and be safer for patients.
“Your can donations really helped our community, and it’s greatly appreciated!” said Dayton Community Club President John Skoglund. “Please keep the cans and bottles coming.”
Pop cans and bottles can be donated at the Dayton car wash.
