Man dead following Highway 20 collision
Failed to stop at P29 stop sign
MOORLAND — A Des Moines man is dead following an accident on U.S. Highway 20 late Thursday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Hal Chase, 82, was northbound on Webster County Road P29 (Baxter Avenue) in a 2011 Honda Fit when he failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection with the highway. His vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2023 Lincoln Nautilus driven by Diane Witt, 78, of Arcadia, troopers reported.
The crash happened at 4:03 p.m.
Witt and her passenger, Stacie Segebart, 51, of Westside, were transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. Chase was also transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Moorland and Callender fire departments, ambulances from the Fort Dodge Fire Department, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene.
