Investigation continues into Sunday shooting

Male shot, remains hospitalized

A Fort Dodge man is recovering in the hospital after being shot Sunday afternoon.

According to Fort Dodge Police Chief Dennis Quinn, an emergency call was received at 1:53 p.m. of an individual being shot at 2243 Eighth Ave. S. When officers arrived at the scene they found a man who had been shot in his right arm. An officer on scene rendered aid to the victim who was later transported by ambulance to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center. According to Quinn, the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The shooter was identified at the scene and was detained. According to a press release from the Fort Dodge Police Department, officers and investigators located evidence and spoke to witnesses in the vicinity about the incident.

Names of the victim and the suspect have not been released.

“The details of this incident and how it took place cannot be released at this time so that the integrity of this investigation is not compromised,” said Quinn in the press release. “But we have determined that this was an isolated incident between two parties and there is no threat to the public.”

The shooting remains under investigation.

The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted by the Webster County Attorney’s Office, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fort Dodge Fire Department.
