GOWRIE — Geraniums, begonias, tomatoes, squash, and more will all be available next week at the Southeast Valley High School Greenhouse.

Students in a variety of classes, including horticulture and FFA, have spent more than a month planting and tending to hundreds of vegetable, flower, bedding plants, and hanging baskets that will be available for the public to purchase.

“The kids have learned a lot during this process,” said agriculture teacher and FFA advisor Johanna Kunert. “They have learned proper watering techniques, the entire growing process from seed to finish, how to start plants from seeds and transplant them, how to arrange and grow a hanging basket, how to manage the time and space we have to accomplish everything we want to. They’ve also learned why we do certain things. For example, there are a lot of different sized packs that we put things in. They’ve learned that we put certain plants in certain containers.”

According to Kunert, the students have also learned about proper ventilation and temperatures inside the greenhouse.

This is the first spring plant sale at the school’s greenhouse since the district purchased it last fall.

The student plant sale will be held from 3-7 p.m. Monday and from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

“Students from FFA, FCCLA, and DECA will all be working the sale and will be ready to help visitors pick out plants, help you, and talk about their experience,” said Kunert.

Starting at $2.99/week.
