FD man charged with conspiracy to commit felony

Paivarinta arrested last week for threats of terrorism

A Fort Dodge man charged with making threats of terrorism faces an additional felony charge.

According to Fort Dodge Police Chief Dennis Quinn, Daniel Paivarinta, 27, is now also charged with conspiracy to commit a forcible felony.

The added charge is a result of the investigation by the Fort Dodge Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division along with the Webster County Attorney’s Office.

Paivarinta was charged last week in Webster County Magistrate Court after the Fort Dodge Police Department received information that he had made social media threats of wanting to purchase a firearm and use it on law enforcement officers.

According to court documents, Paivarinta threatened to commit terrorism or made threats intended to cause fear of imminent acts of terrorism within the city limits of Fort Dodge.

In a press release, the Fort Dodge Police Department said further postings online by Paivarinta outlined his plans to carry out an attack on law enforcement, including publicly posting that he was in search of a firearm.

On May 1, the Fort Dodge Police Department arranged an operation that validated the identity of Paivarinta and his intent to purchase a firearm.

Paivarinta is currently being held in the Webster County Jail on $100,000 cash only bond.

Starting at $2.99/week.
