Anyone going by Dunkin’ Donuts in Fort Dodge Friday morning may notice a lot of law enforcement officers there.
They will not be there because some horrible crime has been committed.
Instead they will be there to raise money for Special Olympics Iowa.
The event is called Cop on a Rooftop. True to its name, it will include some officers on the top of the building at 2520 Fifth Ave. S.
The event will be from 6 a.m. to noon.
Dunkin’ Donuts customers will have an opportunity to donate to Special Olympics Iowa and meet their local law enforcement officers.
Donors will get a little thank you gift. Those who make a donation in any amount will receive a coupon for a free doughnut. Those who make a donation of $10 or more will get a coupon for a free medium hot coffee. And those who donate $20 or more will get a tote bag, while supplies last.
The Fort Dodge community has typically been a big supporter of this event. The local version of Cop on a Rooftop was the statewide leader in 2016, 2017, 2022 and 2024. In each of those years, the local event generated the most donations for Special Olympics Iowa. Last year, $3,137.02 was raised.
Participating agencies include the Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.
