Compassionate Conversations

Friendship Haven to host dinner to discuss caregiving, senior living

Conversations with an aging loved one about their independence can be difficult and uncomfortable.

Friendship Haven is hosting a Compassionate Conversations dinner next week with the hope of answering questions and walking the delicate road towards senior living.

“Having conversations with your aging parent is important in understanding what their wishes are and respecting their desire to maintain independence and meaningful relationships,” said Cari Conrad, independent and assisted living director at Friendship Haven. “Discussing financial aspects such as insurance, wills, and investments can help ensure effective management if there comes a time when assistance is needed. Having open discussions can help both people feel more prepared, preventing the need to make a rushed decision due to crisis or a sudden health issue. Taking the steps helps provide a peace of mind for what the future brings.”

Adults with aging parents or who provide assistance to someone who is aging are invited to attend Compassionate Conversations on Tuesday at Friendship Haven.

Questions and conversations will happen over a meal of parmesan crusted chicken breast provided by Friendship Haven’s head chef Ira Shivers.

“We will be talking about the approaches to this conversation and how to start this planning together with your loved one so they can enjoy independence, social activities and have plans for health care needs before a crisis or sudden health issue forces a rushed decision,” said Conrad. “We want everyone to make decisions on their future thoughtfully and with the best interests of our older adults in mind.”

Those interested in attending Compassionate Conversations are asked to RSVP to Friendship Haven by calling 515-573-6000.
