Glitz and Glamour event set

Night of fun planned for special needs community

One of the region’s popular events returns to the Crossroads Hotel and Event Center on March 8.

According to Facing Autism, Inc., of Fort Dodge board member Michelle Hammersland, the fourth annual A Night of Glitz and Glamour for special needs individuals is hoping to bring another three-digit-plus crowd.

“The first year we did this at the Iowa Central Community College East Campus, we outgrew the facility quickly,” she said. “We’ve been at the Starlight Village and now Crossroads Hotel and Event Center each year since.”

“It is such a wonderful and important event for the special needs community,” she added. “They love to dress up, dance and have fun.”

Tickets are on sale for $15 for ages 16 and over through the facingautism.com web site or at Hy-Vee, 115 S. 29th St., with a final sale date of Feb. 22.

A dinner of chicken strips and French fries replete with cupcakes for dessert starts off the evening from 5:30 to 6 p.m. with the dance going from 6 to 9 p.m.

Several sponsors are involved with Crossroads Hotel and Event Center providing a site discount, Sugar and Spice donating the cupcakes, Mojo Productions managing the DJ work, Studio Fusion being a monetary supporter, Iowa Central Community College students taking care of photography, and Southeast Valley School District supplying the decorations.

“It is impressive to see the area come together to give these individuals a night to remember,” Hammersland said. “We are going to have our board of directors dress up and attendees are welcome to dress up or come as they are. We welcome people from Fort Dodge, Webster City, Humboldt, Manson, and the local region even though we did have a person come from Omaha, Nebraska, last year to be part of this.”

“It is a busy night,” she added. “The dance floor stays hopping from start to finish.”

Starting at $4.94/week.
