A downtown Fort Dodge building that appears to be slightly leaning will be coming down to make way for an outdoor seating area for the business next door.

The City Council on Monday voted to give the building at 18 N. Seventh St. to the owner of O’Goodies, a bar immediately to the south of it at 16 N. Seventh St..

The city government had taken ownership of the building under the terms of the state’s abandoned buildings law.

Monday’s council action gives the property to O’Goodies Demolition & Rehabilitation, a limited liability company formed by O’Goodies owner Justin Goodno for this project. The building at 18 N. Seventh St. will be demolished and an outdoor seating area will be created where the building once stood. The project is to be done by September 2025.
