Churches offer songs of the season

Two Fort Dodge churches are inviting the public to join congregation members in celebrating the season with special music at Christmas cantatas.

The first of those will be performed by the Trinity Singers of Trinity United Methodist Church. The cantatas will be performed at 5:30 p.m. today and 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 838 N. 25th St.

This year’s cantata is titled “Born a Sacrifice” and will feature the 25-member Trinity Singers plus solos by Shari Netz, Bobbie Maltas, Reese Pederson and Marty Smith.

It will also include the Trinity Ringers Bell Ensemble, Dee Murman on flute, Roger Netz on tin whistle, Kevin Thompson on drums, Shari Lehman on piano and congregation sing-alongs.

The First Covenant Choir at First Covenant Church will present its Christmas cantata at 5 p.m. Dec. 14 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 15 at the church, 201 Ave. H. The church is located along U.S. Highway 169 north of Iowa Central Community College.

The soloists will be Micah Flaherty, Denise Halverson, David Lass, Carolyn Bergman, and Todd Redenius.

The First Covenant Praise Band will be part of the cantata also. It consists of Armona Redenius and Lass on trumpet, Don Bergman and Flaherty and Don Begrman on trombones, Lisa Flaherty on piano, Linda Benson on keyboard and Dean Davis on drums.

The cantata is accompanied by Shelly Bottorff on piano, Benson on keyboard and Davis on drums.

The First Covenant Choir is directed by Armona Redenius.
