Sexton, Meyer tapped for committee roles

The two state representatives serving Webster County have been named to committee leadership positions for the upcoming legislative session.

State Rep. Mike Sexton, R-Rockwell City, will again be the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.

State Rep. Ann Meyer, R- Fort Dodge, will lead the House panel that leads the way in writing the state’s health and human services budget.

The appointments were announced by House Speaker Pat Grassley, R-New Hartford.

Sexton, who has been a member of the House for 10 years, is a farmer and sheep rancher. He has been the Agriculture Committee chairman since 2022.

“I appreciate the faith Speaker Pat Grassley has placed in me to continue leading the Iowa House Agriculture Committee,” Sexton said in a written statement. “As the leading state in production of many crops and livestock, it is important that we protect our land and how we raise our livestock to continue being a top state for agriculture.”

Meyer will be the chairwoman of the House Health and Human Services Budget Subcommittee.That budget is around $2.2 billion yearly.

“Assuring that Iowans have access to health care has always been my priority and I will still be involved with health policy,” Meyer said in a written statement. “I’m looking forward to this new challenge and promise to be a good steward of your tax dollars.”

Meyer is a nurse and nursing instructor.
