Voters pack the polls

Nearly 4,500 residents already cast ballots for election

Webster County voters are keeping the Auditor’s Office busy before election day.

According to Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner, 2,746 residents have voted in person with 2,100 requesting a ballot by mail and 1,732 having returned a ballot as of Wednesday evening.

“I have an amazing team of people who are working diligently to give everyone a chance to vote in this election,” said Pliner. “I encourage everyone to get out and vote.”

Ballots sent by mail must be received by 8 p.m. Nov. 5 to be counted.

Pliner said Safe at Home and military ballots have until noon. on Nov. 12 to be returned and counted for the election.

Voters interested in voting in-person early can do so from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays at the Webster County Courthouse, 701 Central Ave., in the first-floor conference room through Nov. 4. Voting will also be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 2.

Satellite voting is also available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Friendship Haven, 420 Kenyon Road. According to Pliner, satellite voting is in-person absentee voting at a location other than the courthouse.

Seventeen precincts will also be running on Tuesday, Nov. 5 for the general election.

If a resident is unclear about if they’re registered to vote or what precinct they should vote in, Pliner said the Secretary of State’s web site allows voters to input their name and zip code and it will provide their voter registration and precinct information.

According to the Iowa Secretary of State, more than 16,500 residents in Webster County are actively registered to vote.
