Polar Plunge for Special Olympics is Sunday

Those who raise $75 can dive into cold water

Supporters of Special Olympics Iowa are invited to hit the chilly water by participating in the Fort Dodge Polar Plunge Sunday at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park.

Individuals must raise a minimum of $75 to participate, according to an announcement from Special Olympics Iowa.

Everyone who raises at least $75 for Special Olympics will receive a T-shirt, admission to the post party, a meal and prizes.

“It is inspiring to see the public come out and support not only the athletes within their own communities, but all Special Olympics Iowa athletes,” Erin Small, event coordinator for Special Olympics, said in a written statement. “I look forward to seeing the different costumes teams come up with and the overall excitement around the Polar Plunge.”

All Polar Plunge proceeds benefit Special Olympics Iowa and help to continue providing year-round sports training and competition, health education, Unified Champion Schools, and leadership programming for more than 9,100 Special Olympics Iowa athletes and partners.

Registration begins at 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the park’s Bob Heun Shelter.

The actual plunge will begin at 1 p.m.

Plungers will jump into Special Olympics Iowa’s mobile polar plunge trailer, a kind of pool on wheels.

Starting at $2.99/week.
