Willow and Callie are two of the German shepherd dogs currently at Moffitt Animal Shelter. They were removed from a puppy mill on Aug. 8. They are learning to be socialized and that they love hot dogs and playing together. While Willow and Callie are friends, they do not have to be adopted together. Many of the German shepherd dogs seized last month in an animal cruelty case are now in the process of being rehabilitated and are even nearing fostering and potential adoption status.

Fort Dodge voters overwhelmingly rejected proposed franchise fees Tuesday that would have paid for adding eight more police officers. The fees were rejected by margins of about 62 percent to 38 percent, according to unofficial referendum results released by Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner. The money would have been used to add four patrol officers, a three-member Community Action Team to work with both patrol and investigations, and one additional general crimes detective position.

Iowa Central Community College Fire Science students climbed 78 stairs and prayed for all who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, on Wednesday at the Iowa Central Fire Tower. The 78 stairs represent the 78th floor of the World Trade Center that New York City firefighters reached when the towers fell.

Initial fall enrollment numbers at Iowa Central Community College show an increase of 41 students and 144 credit hours, according to information presented this week by Vice President of Student Services Tom Beneke.
