Mason tapped for school board seat

An individual has apparently been selected to fill a vacancy on the Fort Dodge Community School District Board of Education.

Dr. Zach Mason, a Fort Dodge chiropractor, said Monday evening that he had been selected by the board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Stu Cochrane. He said he will be sworn into office at next Monday’s board meeting.

Cochrane resigned after 28 years on the board for a variety of personal and professional reasons. His resignation was effective Sunday.

Mason is currently a member of the Fort Dodge Community Schools Foundation Board. He said he sought the Board of Education vacancy because he wants to have a “bigger impact on the school district as a whole.”

“I found this school board seat as an opportunity to do just that,” he said.

He said he wants all Fort Dodge schools to be safe places with a “great learning environment.”

Mason said he will be on the school board ballot in the fall of 2025.

Starting at $2.99/week.
