Students to lead fall pop-up event
GOWRIE — Southeast Valley High School students will utilize the district’s new greenhouse this week as they prepare for their first pop-up sale.
The district recently purchased the greenhouse from Foxtail Floral and is utilizing the space as a hands-on learning tool for students to learn about agriculture, business, and family consumer science.
At their pop-up event, students will be selling a variety of sizes and colors of fall mums.
“We are so excited to get out and use it,” said Johanna Kunert, Southeast Valley High School FFA and agriculture teacher. “It’s been a work in progress, and it will continue to be a work in progress, but I think if the kids are able to see what we can do with it they’ll be even more excited about future events.”
Students in Kunert’s classes, as well as Nicole Buresh’s family consumer science classes, have been cleaning, decorating, and preparing the greenhouse for this week’s sale.
“We have students signed up to work all the shifts,” said Kunert. “We’re excited that the students are all willingly wanting to participate.”
The Southeast Valley High School students mum pop-up sale will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today and Thursday.
All profits made by the students’ efforts will go back to Southeast Valley High School student organizations.
