Free diapers available at Farmers Market
Diaper Drive supports local maternal mental health efforts
Diapers will be available at no-charge for those in need today at the Fort Dodge Farmers Market. The Diaper Drive is part of Webster County Public Health Department’s outreach in support of maternal mental health.
There are no eligibility requirements to receive free diapers which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in sizes preemie through size four.
The farmer’s market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11 N. 25th St.
Along with diapers, WCPH will also be handing out Maternal Mental Health Matters bags that will include mental health support information inside.
“Suicide and overdose are among the top five causes of maternal mortality and many moms struggle through postpartum depression without talking to anyone about it,” said Sara Carspecken, Maternal Health Director at WCPH.
WCPH will also have WIC staff on site at the Farmers Market to help new moms sign up for services, if they qualify.
“Our goal with the Maternal Mental Health Matters Coalition is to encourage moms to talk about their struggles, reach out, and to know it’s OK to not feel OK,” said Carspecken. “We want to decrease the stigmas associated with mental health struggles so that moms can feel more comfortable asking for help. Mental health has to be a priority for healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.”
