Suspect at large following pursuit

Vehicle was previously reported stolen

A suspect is at large following a multi-county vehicle pursuit early Tuesday morning.

According to Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger, a deputy attempted to pull over a 2012 Chevrolet 3500 flatbed truck on Iowa Highway 3 at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of the truck did not pull over and instead accelerated, evading the deputy.

The pursuit continued west on Iowa Highway 3 into Pocahontas County. Just east of the intersection of Iowa Highway 3 and Pocahontas County Road N65, the driver entered a farm field to avoid stop sticks that had been deployed by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Department. The truck then traveled nearly a mile through soybean and corn fields until becoming stuck and disabled in a dredge ditch northeast of the intersection of 530th Street and N65 in Pocahontas County.

A perimeter was set up by officers and drones were deployed. However, the suspect was not located due to the cover of the corn fields.

According to Kruger, further investigation revealed the truck had been reported stolen to the Story County Sheriff’s Department earlier in the morning.

The truck was recovered from the dredge ditch by Jergens Body & Alignment from Humboldt. Evidence was seized from inside the truck and will be sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Lab in Ankeny for further testing.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pocahontas Police Department.
