A fence recently went up around the site of the future restaurant on the southwest side of the intersection of 29th Street and First Avenue South. Big machines have been rumbling around inside the fence, doing the groundwork that is always the first stage in a construction project.

The new restaurant is slated to open in early 2025, according to an announcement from Chick-fil-A Inc.

It will measure just over 4,600 square feet and be able to seat 82 people.

It will have an outdoor seating area and a playground.

A multi-lane drive-thru will be part of the restaurant.

According to Chick-fil-A, each of its restaurants creates 80 to 120 jobs in the community.

The construction of the Chick-fil-A is the latest move in a surge of activity at Corridor Plaza.

What was once the Younkers wing of Crossroads Mall is being renovated to house Dunham’s Sporting Goods, Maurice’s and Shoe Sensation. All three stores are expected to be open for this year’s Christmas shopping season.

On the west side of the complex, the steel framework of a large sports pavilion has been set in place. The 200-by-250-foot building will house four basketball courts, three pickleball courts and a microbrewery restaurant. It will be owned and operated by M & M LLC, of Ankeny.

Work is also underway on parking lots and roads within Corridor Plaza.

Corridor Plaza is already home to UnityPoint Express Care, Discount Tire, Teriyaki Madness, Clean Laundry, T-Mobile and Tidal Wave Auto Spa.
