Second teen dies following Loomis Park crash
Teens involved in July 2 accident
According to an email from the Fort Dodge Community School District, Amyrra Lumsden, age 16, has passed away. Lumsden was going to be a junior at Fort Dodge Senior High this year.
Lumsden and 16-year-old Jessie Leyja were passengers in a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Leah Lynch on July 2nd. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lynch was driving through Loomis Park in Fort Dodge when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene. Lumsden was taken by LifeFlight from the accident. Per the Iowa State Patrol, Leyja was treated and released at the scene. All three teenagers were wearing seatbelts.
The Fort Dodge Community School District has school counselors available for students and staff who would like help in processing the losses of Lumsden and Lynch.
“If an adult feels their child may need extra support, they can contact the FDSH main office at 515-955-1770,” said FDCSD Director of Communications Lydia Schuur. “They will be connected with a counselor. Resources are also available for families.”
