By Mark Adkins 2 min read

A partnership with the Fort Dodge Youth Soccer Association was highlighted during the July 8 meeting of the Fort Dodge Community School District board.

"We're offering several options to the elementary schools including the potential to supply goals for fields and provide mini-pitches," FDYSA volunteer board member Derek Haugland commented. "The principals at each building say the children love playing soccer at recess, so we are supporting that opportunity."

Haugland presented Superintendent Josh Porter with a donation of game balls for the elementary schools to use in the 2024-25 school year. "We want to continue to build on our success," he said. "Our numbers were at 470 with over 180 games this past fall and spring."

In other news, the board:

• Heard from member and financial committee Director Brandon Hansel that the district received the Iowa Association of School Board's Excellence in Financial Reporting for an 11th straight year.

• Approved a second change order for the high school parking lot in regards to the district-wide work on same areas. According to district maintenance Director Ryan Utley, it deals with fill and subgrade improvements in the water main replacement area with a cost of $19,789.85.

• Approved a fourth change order for $6,161.61 for the Dodger Stadium project in regards to a hand-washing area and stainless-steel panel to go with it in the concession stand per an Iowa Department of Public Health recommendation.

• Approved paying off the balance of the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress for 2023-24 ($11,175.75)
