Montgomery wins in District 2
Republican advances to November election
Nathan Montgomery won about 84 percent of the vote Tuesday to easily secure the Republican nomination for the District 2 seat on the Webster County Board of Supervisors.
He won 665 votes, according to unofficial election results released by Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate.
Randy Andrews won 121 votes, or about 15 percent of the total.
Montgomery described himself as “just really kind of blown away by all the support.”
“It’s just good to have the people’s support,” he said.
He attributed his primary election success to his “ground game” – knocking on doors and meeting voters. He said he started doing that in November.
The biggest issues people wanted to talk about, he said, were property taxes and the potential construction of a carbon dioxide pipeline. He said he is opposed to the construction of the pipeline and the potential use of eminent domain to acquire private property for it.
“I want to congratulate Nathan Montgomery for this win in the Republican primary election for Webster County supervisor from District 2 and wish him good luck in the November election,” Andrews said.
“I would like to thank my supporters who voted for me today,” he added. “I will continue to serve the public as I have the for the last 30 years.”
Montgomery will face incumbent Democratic Supervisor Mark Campbell in November. He said that will be a tough challenge.
“This win will give us a lift going into November,” he said.
District 2 is essentially the southern half of the county.
