FD woman pleads guilty in drug, assault case

A Fort Dodge woman accused of possessing methamphetamine and injuring two police officers with her car may face more than a decade in prison after pleading guilty, court records show.

Jonetta R. Clark, 40, of 1229 Sixth Ave. N., pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury or mental illness and one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver methamphetamine under 5 grams.

The charges stem from an April 17 incident, which occurred at 12:40 a.m. in the 1700 block of Fifth Avenue South when police attempted to stop Clark’s Cadillac. She rammed a Fort Dodge Police Department vehicle with her car during the traffic stop, according to criminal complaints filed against her.

When officers attempted to remove her from her vehicle, she put it in reverse and began backing up. At that moment, two officers were partially in her car. As a result, one suffered an ankle injury and the other suffered a shoulder injury.

She was also accused of possessing methamphetamine and marijuana that morning.

A long list of charges were filed against her, but that list was reduced to the three offenses to which she pleaded guilty.

The drug and assault counts were two separate cases presided over by different judges. Both judges handed down sentences Monday, sending Clark to prison.

On the charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, methamphetamine under five grams, District Court Judge Kurt J. Stoebe sentenced her to a maximum of 10 years in prison. He also imposed a $1,370 fine, but suspended it.

District Court Judge John Flynn sentenced her to up to two years in prison for each of the two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury or mental illness.

He also imposed an $855 fine for each count, but immediately suspended it.

The judges ordered the sentences to be served consecutively, so Clark now faces a maximum of 14 years in prison.
