Changes coming to Iowa Heart’s relationship with UnityPoint Health — TRMC

Glasgo working to ‘develop plan for support, coverage’

UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge announced earlier this week that an agreement with MercyOne — Iowa Heart will come to an end later this year.

Leah Glasgo, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge, confirmed with The Messenger that “we remain committed to providing high-quality cardiovascular care to Fort Dodge and the surrounding region.”

Iowa Heart provided UnityPoint Health with a written notice, saying they were terminating the cardiology agreement between the two effective Oct.19, 2024.

After receiving news of the notice, Glasgo began talks with UnityPoint Clinic to leverage their expertise and develop a plan to provide those same services previously offered.

“UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge and MercyOne — Iowa Heart are committed to working together to ensure a smooth and coordinated transition of services and patient care,” Glasgo said. “At this time, we are working with our UnityPoint Clinic partners to develop a plan for support and coverage to ensure 24/7 interventional cardiology care at Trinity Regional Medical Center.

“We know this is a vital service and we are focused on developing a plan to meet this need.”

Iowa Heart Center remains open and will continue to see patients at its Fort Dodge location, located at 800 Kenyon Road. According to their website, MercyOne — Iowa Heart currently has centers in West Des Moines, Ames, Ankeny, Carroll, Des Moines, Newton, Ottumwa and Fort Dodge.
