Autism Walk is Saturday in Fort Dodge

Event begins at 2 p.m. at FDMS

Facing Autism, Inc. is set to host its sixth annual Autism Awareness and Acceptance Walk on Saturday.

It will begin at 2 p.m. at the Fort Dodge Middle School, 800 N. 32nd St.

During the walk, families can also enjoy a resource fair which will include activities and information from various community resources.

Autism Awareness Month is approaching and part of the organization’s mission is to bring awareness and inclusion to the Fort Dodge community. According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 36 children has been identified as having autism. Supporting your loved ones with autism and working to make our community an accepting, more inclusive, and safe place for autistic people of all ages and abilities is the group’s priority. This month, and every month, it encourages people to learn more, ask questions and be open to minds of all kinds. As Temple Grandin says, “The world needs all kinds of minds,”

Facing Autism Inc. is a non-profit group committed to helping the Fort Dodge area with raising autism awareness and acceptance for individuals on the autism spectrum. It plans events in the community for individuals with autism and their families. Though its core mission focuses on autism, it is accepting of all diagnoses, so events include all individuals with special needs. Special needs is defined as having any physical, emotional, behavioral or learning impairment/disability that causes the child to need accommodations to participate.
