Property tax hearing is tonight

FD City Council will also consider contracts

The Fort Dodge City Council will have a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate this evening, then consider awarding some contracts for infrastructure work.

The council’s work will begin at 5 p.m. with a hearing on the total maximum property tax for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The proposed maximum tax rate is $20.96 per $1,000 of taxable value.

This hearing is a new requirement under state law.

When the hearing is over, the council will have a workshop on the development of Corridor Plaza.

That will be followed by a workshop on animal control.

At 6 p.m., the council’s regular business meeting will start.

During that session, the council will consider awarding a contract for reconstruction of the intersection of Avenue C and Kenyon Road. That project is to be done this year, while the reconstruction of the westbound side of the Kenyon Road Bridge is underway.

Castor Construction, of Fort Dodge, submitted the apparent low bid of about $1.3 million.

The council will also consider awarding contracts for the reconstruction of the parking lot behind the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S., and the creation of a storage lot next to the Fort Dodge Fiber facility at 204 S. Eighth St.
