Fort Dodge City Councilman Cameron Nelson was honored as the Volunteer of the Year for the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance Thursday night.

Nelson was recognized for being an Alliance Ambassador helping at ribbon-cutting ceremonies. He is also a graduate of the alliance’s Leadership Fort Dodge program and serves as a community tour guide.

He is a member of the committee that oversees the Leadership Fort Dodge and Junior Leadership Fort Dodge programs.

Nelson assists in recruiting new members to the Growth Alliance.

“Volunteers play a crucial role in the effectiveness of our organization,” said Kelly Hindman, the vice president of the Growth Alliance board who presented the award.

“From serving on committees, to giving community tours, to helping with events, hundreds of individuals have volunteered their time to assist with the Growth Alliance’s efforts,” he added. “Tonight it is my pleasure to announce that our Volunteer of the Year Award goes to Councilman Cameron Nelson.”
