Manson man killed when car hits ATV
KNIERIM — A man was killed when the all-terrain vehicle he was driving was hit by a car Thursday afternoon on U.S. Highway 20 near the border of Calhoun and Webster counties.
The Iowa State Patrol identified him as Michael D. Leith, 84, of Manson.
The crash happened at 3:33 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Zearing Avenue in Calhoun County, the State Patrol reported.
Leith was driving a 2020 John Deere ATV northbound on Zearing Avenue and failed to yield at the intersection with the highway, troopers reported. The ATV was hit by a 2007 Ford Taurus operated by William O. Peterson, 88, of Moorland, which was eastbound on U.S. Highway 20, according to state troopers. Both vehicles ended up in the highway median, east of the intersection.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, Knierim-Greenfield Township Fire Department, Calhoun County medical examiner and the Iowa Department of Transportation also responded to the crash.
