County candidate lineup is set

Two Republicans will be competing in the June primary election for the chance to oppose Democratic Webster County Supervisor Mark Campbell.

And two political newcomers are vying to replace Webster County Auditor Doreen Pliner, a Democrat who is retiring after two terms.

This year, voters will pick three members of the Board of Supervisors, an auditor and a sheriff. The list of candidates seeking those offices was established Friday as the deadline for filing nominating petitions passed.

Board of Supervisors

In District 2, Campbell is seeking his fourth term. He has no primary election opposition.

On the Republican side, Randy Andrews and Nathan Montgomery are seeking the nomination.

District 2 is essentially the southern half of the county.

In District 3, Democrat Bob Thode is seeking his third term. He has no primary election foe. Republican Clayton Bills is unopposed for his party’s nomination in that district.

District 3 is entirely in Fort Dodge, encompassing the eastern part of the city.

In District 5, Democratic Supervisor Nick Carlson is seeking his third term with no primary election opposition. Republican John Cochrane is unopposed for the Republican nomination in that district. District 5 is western Fort Dodge, Clare and rural areas of northwestern Webster County including Deer Creek, Douglas and Jackson townships.

Auditor

Krystal Lloyd, the drainage clerk in the Auditor’s Office, is unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

Shaunna Abrams is unopposed for the Republican nomination. She is an employee of United Bank of Iowa and a member of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance board.

Sheriff

Republican Sheriff Luke Fleener is seeking his second term in office. He faces a primary election challenge from one of his deputies, Trevir Michehl.

No Democrats entered the race for sheriff.
