Upper Des Moines Opportunity has new location

The Fort Dodge office of Upper Des Moines Opportunity Inc. has a new home in a new centralized location in downtown Fort Dodge.

The UDMO office moved from its former location on First Avenue South to its new site at 704 Central Ave., Suite 200, in early December.

“A move in the middle of winter is never fun,” said Alisa Schlief, family and community services director. “And then in the midst of our busy season made it a little bit more challenging.”

UDMO provides an array of different services for local families. From Oct. 1 through April 30 each year, UDMO works with local low-income families with its Energy Assistance Program, Schlief said.

The agency also has a food pantry that is available by appointment and as a drive-thru on the third Thursday of the month.

Schlief also highlighted the baby’s room, where parents of children from birth to the age of 2 can shop for needed items, as well as the birthday room, where parents with children up to 8 years old can choose gifts and birthday party supplies for their child.

UDMO is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“We’re super excited about our new space, and being more downtown and hopefully centrally located for families,” Schlief said.

UDMO will be having an open house Friday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. to welcome visitors to their new space.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story had Alisa Schlief’s name misspelled.
