Sexton launches bid for sixth term

State Rep. Mike Sexton formally announced on Tuesday that he is seeking his sixth term in the Iowa House of Representatives.

“It has been an honor to serve my district in the Statehouse,” the Republican from Rockwell City said.

“I work hard to listen to my constituents and represent their values in the House,” he added. “I believe I am still the best person for this job and I am thrilled to announce my bid for reelection.”

Sexton represents House District 7, which includes Calhoun, Pocahontas and Sac counties plus western Webster County.

He is a farmer and small business owner. He and his wife, Becky, have five children and 13 grandchildren.

The lawmaker graduated from Rockwell City High School and earned an associate degree from Iowa Lakes Community College.

Sexton was a state senator from 1999 to 2003. After leaving the Senate, he served on the Rockwell City -Lytton and South Central Calhoun school boards.

He was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2014.

Currently, he is the chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.

So far, he is the only person to declare their candidacy in House District 7.
