Police investigate shooting death in Fort Dodge

The Fort Dodge Police Department is investigating a death after a man was found unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound in the yard of a southwest Fort Dodge home early Friday morning.

According to a release from the FDPD, law enforcement was called to the 1600 block of 14th Avenue Southwest at 5:16 a.m. for a report that someone had been shot. When officers and deputies arrived, they found an unresponsive male laying on the ground.

Medical aid was given to the male by officers and medics before he was transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

As of Friday evening, the investigators with the FDPD and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were working to determine exactly what happened that led to the man’s death. The man’s name has not been released.
