Missing Calhoun Co. man found deceased

JOLLEY — A Rockwell City man who was last seen Oct. 28 was found deceased inside his vehicle at a wooded abandoned property near Jolley on Friday.

According to a release from Calhoun County Sheriff Pat Riley, 54-year-old Mark Riesberg’s Chrysler PT Cruiser was located at 1710 230th St. at 1:35 p.m. Riesberg’s body was found inside the vehicle with a single gunshot wound, the sheriff reported.

Riley said foul play is not suspected, but investigations are ongoing. Riesberg’s body has been sent to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.

According to Jake Rowley, Midwest team leader for the United Cajun Navy, an organization that provides volunteers to assist in search efforts, Reisberg’s vehicle was located by one of its search teams that was in the area searching for a Sac County missing man, David Schultz, of Lake View.

Schultz has been missing since Nov. 21, when he failed to complete the delivery of a semitrailer of hogs from Eagle Grove to Sac City. The semitrailer was found that afternoon unlocked and parked in the middle of the road on U.S. Highway 71 northeast of Sac City. His cell phone, wallet and cash were located inside the truck, and his coat was found in a nearby ditch. The trailer was still full of hogs.

Search efforts organized by Rowley will continue this weekend. Volunteers will be meeting at the Sac City Hotel, 103 Ash Ave. in Sac City, at 10:30 a.m. Volunteers will be required to wear some sort of bright orange apparel because today is opening day of deer hunting season, Rowley wrote on his Facebook page where he posts updates on the search efforts.

The Sac County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating Schultz’s disappearance. The last update from officials was released on Nov. 27, sharing that “as of this time, there is nothing new to report.”
