HUMBOLDT -- A Humboldt man caught allegedly burglarizing vehicles in Humboldt on Wednesday night was also responsible for the burglary of a Casey's General Store in Dakota City earlier this month, according to law enforcement.

Christopher J. Reed, 18, of Humboldt, was arrested Wednesday after the Humboldt Police Department and Humboldt County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Third Street South for a report of a male burglarizing vehicles, according to a press release from the HCSO.

According to criminal complaints, Reed allegedly broke into four vehicles in the 200 block of Third Street South. When an HPD officer arrived in the area, Reed allegedly began sprinting away, but stopped when directed by the officer.

Reed has been charged with four counts of third-degree burglary of a motor vehicle, all aggravated misdemeanors.

According to the WCSO release, the investigation also identified Reed as the suspect who allegedly broke into the Casey's in Dakota City on Dec. 15. The criminal complaint alleges that Reed was able to get into the Casey's through an accidentally unlocked door when the store was closed. He's accused of stealing vape pods totaling $92.70 and charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony.

Reed had his initial appearance in Humboldt County Magistrate Court on Thursday morning. He's being held in the Humboldt County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
