FD school board OKs construction plans

Roof replacement, parking lot/sidewalk repairs on tap

The initial plans and cost estimate for two major construction projects were approved by the Fort Dodge Community School District Board of Education on Monday evening.

The first project approved was the replacement of the roof above the swimming pool at Fort Dodge Senior High. That section of roof is the oldest in the district, last replaced in 1992, according to Director of Buildings and Grounds Ryan Utley.

The roof replacement project is projected to cost around $700,000. Bids for the project will be due on Jan. 31 and the winning bid will be awarded by the school board at its following meeting.

The second project is for the repairs of several parking lots and sidewalks at various district buildings. Sites include Cooper Elementary, Butler Elementary, Dodger Stadium, Fort Dodge Senior High and Feelhaver Elementary.

The parking lot and sidewalk repair project is estimated to cost just under $1.4 million, Utley said. The bids for this project will also be due Jan. 31 and awarded at the following school board meeting.
