Humboldt man pleads guilty in federal court
Hardy was charged with possession of a firearm
A Humboldt man pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm in federal court on Tuesday.
According to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa, 37-year-old Joseph Isiah Hardy Sr., a convicted felon, admitted to being found in possession of a stolen gun and that he had a previous felony conviction.
The release does not say when Hardy was in possession of the stolen gun, but state court records indicate he was charged in Humboldt County District Court with theft and possession of a firearm in October 2022. The state charges were later dismissed.
Hardy will be sentenced in United States District Court at a later date. He remains in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing, and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison without parole, a maximum fine of $250,000, a mandatory special assessment of $100 and a term of supervised release of up to three years.
The case was investigated by the Humboldt Police Department.
