Supervisors OK easement agreement for Badger trail
CLARE — The Webster County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement on Tuesday with a pair of landowners for a permanent easement on a little over 10 acres of their property for the construction of a recreational trail between Badger and Fort Dodge.
The board held its meeting “on the road” this week at the Clare Community Center.
During the meeting, the board unanimously approved the agreement to pay $85,000 to Dennis and Brenda Plain for a permanent easement on 10.6 acres of their property north of Fort Dodge near 170th Street and Paragon Avenue.
The acquisition of the easement is part of Webster County Conservation’s 4.7-mile paved recreational trail connection project along Paragon Avenue between Badger and Fort Dodge. The project has been in the works for the last three years. The county has or will enter permanent easement agreements with several landowners along the trail’s route.
The trail connection project is one of several outdoor recreation and quality of life projects Webster County Conservation has undertaken in the last few years. Other projects include the new River’s Edge Discovery Center currently being constructed along the Des Moines River west of downtown Fort Dodge, as well as the recently-completed improvements at Badger Lake.
On Saturday, Webster County Conservation is hosting a grand opening for the Badger Lake Trail at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park from 4 to 8 p.m. The 1.4-mile trail that encircles Badger Lake is now paved and more accessible to more trail users.
The next regular meeting of the Webster County Board of Supervisors will be 10 a.m. on Oct. 24 at the Badger Community Center. While the board’s regular meeting room at the Webster County Courthouse is closed for HVAC construction, the board will be taking its meetings “on the road” for the next two months.
