75 years of service to be celebrated

Air Guard to have event Saturday

The local Iowa Air National Guard unit got its start when the Cold War standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union was just beginning. It has served the country through war and peace ever since. Recently, it played a leading role in beefing up America’s radar capabilities to help prevent another 9/11 style attack.

Now the members of the 133rd Test Squadron are ready to celebrate their unit’s 75 year history.

The public is invited to join squadron members and their families from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the squadron’s facility, 1649 Nelson Ave., which is just south of Fort Dodge Regional Airport.

“We want the entire community to come celebrate with us,” said Lt. Col. Jason Kolacia, the unit’s commander. “We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished over the past 75 years.”

“We are especially appreciative of past 133rd members who have contributed a huge part of their lives in service to their hometown Air Guard,” he added. “We want to express our appreciation to the Fort Dodge community, our family members, and our employers for their support through all of our history.”

Military vehicles, aircraft, radios, and radar will be on display Saturday.

Food vendors will be on site.

Activities for kids will include bouncy houses, facepainting, coloring and a photo booth.

At 1 p.m. there will be a ceremony. Maj. Gen. Stephen Osborn, the adjutant general of Iowa, and Kolacia will be speaking.
