MASON CITY -- A Cerro Gordo County jury returned a guilty verdict against defendant Lakendrick "Kenny" Mosley, of Fort Dodge, on Tuesday morning.

Mosley, 32, has been on trial for first-degree murder for the Dec. 25, 2022, shooting death of 46-year-old Montreail Dungy in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood of Fort Dodge.

"We are happy the jury brought justice for the Dungy family," said Assistant Webster County Attorney Brad McIntyre. "Our system can and will bring accountability to those responsible for violence in our community. We are grateful to law enforcement and the members of our community who were crucial to the outcome of this case."

Mosley is accused of shooting Dungy at point-blank range while the victim sat in his own car in the 1000 block of 10th Avenue Southwest at about 3 a.m. on Christmas Day.

In his closing arguments on Monday afternoon, Assistant Attorney General Ryan Baldridge, who prosecuted the case with McIntyre, called the shooting an "execution." Dungy had two gunshot wounds to the head and two to the chest, all from point-blank range.

Prior to trial, the defense asked for and was granted a change of venue, and the trial began in Cerro Gordo County on Aug. 21.

Mosley's brother, 27-year-old Darwin Green, is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder for allegedly driving the getaway car after the shooting. Green's trial is currently scheduled for Sept. 19.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 2 at the Webster County Courthouse.
