A fire Friday afternoon forced a Fort Dodge family out of a home it had moved into that morning.
No one was injured, but there was extensive damage to the home at 141 Regency Court West, which is one side of a duplex.
The fire was reported at 3:39 p.m.
Fire Chief Steve Hergenreter said the woman who lives in the home returned after picking up her two daughters from school and discovered the fire.
When police and firefighters arrived, smoke was billowing out of the home’s open garage door. Firefighters advanced one hoseline through the garage and into the home. The fire was out within about 10 minutes of their arrival.

“They knocked it down pretty quick,” Hergenreter said.
He said there was extensive fire damage in the kitchen. Firefighters had to tear down the ceiling in the kitchen to prevent the fire from extending throughout the home.
There was heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home, according to Hergenreter.
The fire started in the microwave oven or the electrical outlet the oven was plugged in to, he said.
The fire chief identified the residents as Abdalla Mohamed and his family. The home is a rental property owned by Windstone Circle LLC. It was built in 2013.
The American Red Cross was called to help the family with temporary housing.
Neighbors said the family moved in Friday morning. Many of the family’s belongings appeared to be stacked in the garage, which may have prevented them from being destroyed by flames.
