District Court judge nominated to Appeals bench

A District Court judge for Iowa Judicial District 2B, which covers Webster County and the surrounding area, has been nominated to replace a retiring judge on the Iowa Court of Appeals.

District Court Judge Amy Moore, of Ames, was one of five candidates nominated for the seat by the State Judicial Nominating Commission. The commission, chaired by Fort Dodge attorney Janece Valentine, met on July 14 to conduct interviews and select the nominees. Gov. Kim Reynolds will have 30 days from that date, or until Aug. 13, to appoint one of the nominees to fill the vacancy. Fort Dodge attorney Jerry Schnurr is also on the Judicial Nominating Commission.

Moore was appointed to the District Court bench in April 2019. She earned her law degree from Creighton University in 2002 and began her career as a trial attorney with the Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho. Prior to her appointment to the District Court bench, Moore was the Story County magistrate and worked in private practice.

The vacancy on the Court of Appeals is due to the retirement of Judge Anuradha Vaitheswaran.
